Fishing the pumping station 6.18.21

Went to pumping station last 3 days and killed it. Caught white bass, pike, and catfish all on artificial swim baits. Catfish were also biting good on worms or really anything dropped by the large water outflow. Water has been a little high for this year recently but not really high at all, I think the large rain we had has led to the fishing being there.

1.17.21 Trenton Catfish!

Trenton fishing, tried out a spot I have been seeing people at a lot lately, let’s call it the point. It’s the end of the center bank on the far side of the lake right off the sunken tree line. We were fishing from 6 to 9 feet, the basin was 9 ft, and then it jump up to shallow right near shore. We got fish in all areas but right on that ledge seemed really good. Caught lots of fish, pike, walleye, catfish, crappie, and white bass. The “squid” rattle spoon in rainbow worked great.

We caught fish all day, was calm and around 25 degrees. Day before was crazy warm and pretty windy.

6.21.20 father’s day!

Father’s Day! Went to Van hook this time and fished the northern most part of the arm and the west side. Learned some things, caught some fish, including 3 catfish on rattletraps! Biggest was a pike at 10 lbs.

Water was not as clear as I thought it would be and the river portion we drove over looked pretty muddy too but I’m not sure.

Fishing flooded ditches 6/9/20

Fished the flooded ditches around the lewis and Clark management areas. The river is just above flood stage and the current is flowing through them readily. Fished near a culvert outflow and caught tons of carp and catfish! Most were really nice sized. All the fish were caught with worms.

4.27.20 Pike at Lewis and Clark

Haley and I finally managed to get on some pike at Lewis and Clark today. She got her biggest fish at 12lbs and we got a lot of smaller ones too. Also some white bass. The next day was the same. Also 2 nice cat fish were caught, 1 each day.

We were down near the marina on the shallow side of the bay, seemed like some good action there. Water temp was around 50 degrees.

Shore fishing 5.21.18

Went out shore fishing at lewis and Clark yesterday with Sam and did really well. We fished the point at lewis and Clark with slip bobber in about 3 feet of water topped with jig head and minnow. Water is high and muddy but fish were biting. Managed several white bass, a crappie, a catfish, and a super nice walleye that sam let go. 26.5 inch, 7 lb, fish! Crappie was spawned out already but may have just happened. Bass were not.

Smelt

Waiting to hear on smelt spawn, should be soon! Also caught crawlers tonight from my yard so good times. Also went to springlake and got 1 trout, 2 cats, and like 6 bullhead.

River Catfishing

Went out on the Missouri River today in the yak in search of catfish. We are one week out from the catfish clash so I was hoping to find some nice cats. Put the yak in and paddled down the end of the sandbar that starts under the Lewis and Clark bridge. There was great structure and current there, with good eddies and some good split in the river chanel but I wasn’t able to put any big fish together. Found a lot of really small cats and a few shiner mostly on worm with only one hit on cut frozen white sucker and a few taps on the smelt. Weather has been nice with 75-85 high temps. I talked to some game and fish guys and they said that the cats basically spawn all season randomly as long as the water is at or above 70 so who knows where they are hiding. May need to try slower slack water next ti.e instead of deep faster pools. Water depth was around 9-12 feet in some places so it was a deep hole.

Catfish on

Well I think the fish are just coming out of spawn and are biting again. Managed to get one at the Lewis and Clark bridge in relatively deep water on smelt.  It was the first day of warming weather after 2 straight days of rain a cold. Nice fish though in the 3-4 lb range.

Update on spring

Went out yesterday, water temp were around 51 degrees, didn’t get any walleyes nd the general was a slow bite. Did get 2 white bass and they seemed active.  Tried on lake side of point in lewis and clark for crappie but no luck, might try shallows this weekend.

Went out a week ago from shore at Lewis and clark and did well, fish were holding in about 3 or 4 feet of water, and catfish were ravanous!
