5.2.20 Amanda’s big walleye

Took the boat out with amanda, was a nice 70 degree day but was pretty windy. Water temp was 52 degrees. We only got 1 walley in 8 ft of water on a green Lindy minnow and that was this 7 lb whopper for amanda. Otherwise we caught some small pike and white bass. Was pretty slow for everyone it seemed.

4.27.20 Pike at Lewis and Clark

Haley and I finally managed to get on some pike at Lewis and Clark today. She got her biggest fish at 12lbs and we got a lot of smaller ones too. Also some white bass. The next day was the same. Also 2 nice cat fish were caught, 1 each day.

We were down near the marina on the shallow side of the bay, seemed like some good action there. Water temp was around 50 degrees.

Spring 2019 report

Spring started off strong then stalled for like ever but I think things are starting to normal out. Spawns are done but the bite is solid. Smelt have yet to spawn but should really soon.

Walleye are up shallow and biting strong on spinners, cranks, and plastics. I have done good with the plastic storm minnow and jig, and minnows on a floating jig from shore and boat.

Pike are also still cruising the shallows looking for food and the white bass are everywhere. Some bigger ones are starting to move in for spawn.

Temps have been low for awhile almost freezing at night and barely 50 during day. But we are warming finally and I believe that will make the smelt run soon.

Side note I have caught my 2 biggest walleye the last few weeks at 5 lbs each and I put rooke on a huge fish at 10 lbs. She was sitting in 14 ft of water on a cooler day in the evening.

Spring summary

Ok so quick notes, ice off this year came the first of April basically for the muddy, and the 2ns week for this end of the lake. Fishing has been really good for walleye up until about now as it has been tapering off latley. I believe both walleye and pike are do e spawning on the muddy but walleye may still be on the lake.

Weather has been really nice and waterlevels are above average and really brown. Hope to get out on the lake in my boat tomorrow.

Here are a fee pics.

Shore fishing 5.21.18

Went out shore fishing at lewis and Clark yesterday with Sam and did really well. We fished the point at lewis and Clark with slip bobber in about 3 feet of water topped with jig head and minnow. Water is high and muddy but fish were biting. Managed several white bass, a crappie, a catfish, and a super nice walleye that sam let go. 26.5 inch, 7 lb, fish! Crappie was spawned out already but may have just happened. Bass were not.

Smelt

Waiting to hear on smelt spawn, should be soon! Also caught crawlers tonight from my yard so good times. Also went to springlake and got 1 trout, 2 cats, and like 6 bullhead.

Smelt run

Smelt started running on friday and should continue all week. I checked the muddy yesterday and saw nothing but was curious.  Some big pike were also caught this week out at lunds, 19 lbers.

Also today is opening day of paddle fishing, will post more about that later.

Update on spring

Went out yesterday, water temp were around 51 degrees, didn’t get any walleyes nd the general was a slow bite. Did get 2 white bass and they seemed active.  Tried on lake side of point in lewis and clark for crappie but no luck, might try shallows this weekend.

Went out a week ago from shore at Lewis and clark and did well, fish were holding in about 3 or 4 feet of water, and catfish were ravanous!

First day in boat!

Took Rooke’s boat out today for first time. Ice came off of this end of the lake about a week ago.  Fished in about 8-10 feet of water at 50 degrees. Managed two good walleye and a slab crappie. Jigging powerbait minnows with a slow retrieve worked well along with dead sticking a minnow below the boat.  Water was super brown but they still seem capable of finding food.
As far as spawn goes, neither of the eyes had eggs but they may have been males idk.  Crappie may start spawning soon so I need to watch for that.

Spring update

A little late but here is the info. Muddy opened up about 3-4 weeks ago. I think pike may have spawned under ice due to the warm spell earlier.  Walleye have been up in the muddy for spawning but I’m unsure of their stage.  Lake just opened up this weekend.
Yesterday I caught 2 post spawn pike, 2 catfish and several shiners.  Tomorrow I’m heading to the lake to check it out but I know the water is brown so we shall see.
